Investment Advisory Services
Every portfolio in George McKelvey Co., Inc. has its own set of investment
objectives and its own individual portfolio strategy based on those
objectives. With an individualized approach to each client, it is natural
that a great deal of personal service is involved. We think that we excel in
that area. In most brokerage houses, there are multiple brokers to each
support person. We are the reverse. Our firm has multiple support
people for each advisor.
George McKelvey Company provides Investment Advisory Services with
pro-active supervision of an investment portfolio. Under our investment
advisory service, the primary responsibility for managing the portfolio is
ours, although, obviously, we discuss matters with our clients. Included
as part of this service is a monthly report of all activity in the account with
a brief summary of account values. Every 90 days an advisory client
receives a customized portfolio summary accompanied by a letter from
us that provides considerable information and insight into holdings. This
is not a standard “market letter” although it does reference what went on
in the market. It focuses on the client’s portfolio, what happened in the
most recent quarter and why. It also addresses what steps should be
taken. Many of our clients find these letters educational as well as
informational. We also communicate regularly by phone and e-mail in
between letters.
On an annual basis, we also include an overview of the significant
changes to the portfolio within the last year.
Generally, our advisory accounts are discretionary. While we believe in
investing for the long term, it is to our client’s advantage for us to have
the authority to act on their behalf. However, we take action only within a
framework upon which we have mutually agreed in advance.
For our Investment Advisory services, we receive a flat fee based on the
assets under management, with a nominal transaction cost. Therefore,
we have limited economic interest in commissions on any specific
transactions. We believe this puts us on the same side of the table with
our clients and we feel comfortable in that position. Our clients seem to
like it as well, since we often deal with several generations of the same
family.
