During our initial consultations with our clients, we ask them to provide
us with pertinent information about themselves (their personal interests,
lifestyle expectations and any special needs that they or their family may
have). We also request information about their existing asset allocation
and revenue streams. Gathering these details into a complete picture
helps us to get to know our clients.
The next step in the process is to establish investment objectives. Then
we devise an investment strategy designed to help our clients meet
those objectives.
Unlike most firms, George McKelvey Company considers its advisory
clients as clients “of the firm”. Effectively, that allows us to assign two
advisors who coordinate in managing and monitoring each advisory
client’s portfolio on a pro-active basis. This concept serves multiple
purposes that benefit our clients. It provides for complete coverage of the
account and it permits our clients to take advantage of the unique but
complementary strengths of both advisors. It also assures continuity for
our clients as their investment objectives change over the course of time.
Growing good relationships
Mutual understanding and confidence are only built over time. We
consider keeping open, ongoing communications an essential in this
process. In between our scheduled, quarterly letters, we also
communicate with our clients regularly by phone, fax and email.
Furthermore, we like to conduct annual face-to-face meetings with our
clients, if location permits – but our national and international client base
attests to the fact that geographic distance is not a barrier to a good
investment relationship.
Since we are an independent advisory firm, we have no proprietary or in-
house products to sell. This “open architecture” allows us to select
investments from any brokerage house or fund family available.
